Authorities said a man and his son pulled a 69-year-old great-grandmother out of the water after she drove off Interstate 20 into a creek in Dallas Tuesday morning. [[378807171,C]]
Joanna Broussard was driving a white car on I-20 when she suffered a diabetic episode, lost control and slid off the road near Mountain Creek Parkway just after 9 a.m., according to Dallas Fire-Rescue's Jason Evans.
Duncanville firefighters said a man and his son saw the incident, stopped on the road and jumped from the bridge to pull Broussard out of the car to safety.
Authorities said Broussard could have died if the two had not intervened. She was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center for treatment.
In an interview with NBC 5 Tuesday Broussard said she has a few broken bones and ribs but wouldn't need surgery. She said she may get out of the hospital as early as Wednesday.
"It’s a little painful to breathe but that’s about it," said Broussard.
Broussard said she was driving home after dropping her granddaughter at work when she blacked out. She said she's hypoglycemic and had low blood sugar that caused her to lose consciousness.

She said she has no recollection of the crash but did have a vague recollection of the men who freed her from her seat belt and pulled her from the water.
“I don’t remember the crash. I don’t even remember driving. I only remember getting on the freeway," Broussard said. “I felt somebody pulling me out of my car. I didn’t know the water was there. Next thing I remember is sitting on the curb, concrete."
The men didn't say anything during the rescue, just pulled her from her Dodge Durango and moved her to a dry, safe place. After making sure she was alert, the two men left.
“He just pulled me out. I don’t remember him saying anything. I barely saw him," Broussard said.
Broussard said she would love to meet and thank the two people who saved her life -- but the pair left before police and firefighters arrived.
“If he’s watching I’d like to meet him. And thank him personally. I don’t know what happened. But, evidently he was my guardian angel," said Broussard.
