Wise Co. Sheriff's Office K-9 Missing After Storm

The Wise County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to find a missing K-9.

Rayco, a 4-year-old Dutch Shepherd, was in his kennel outside when strong storms moved through North Texas early Sunday morning, blowing apart the kennel.

When Rayco's handler went to check on him, he was nowhere to be found.

"The first thing I did, I ran over to where the kennel was, I lifted it up to make sure he wasn't underneath or trapped or anything like that," said Wise County Sheriff's Sgt. J.T. Manoushagian.

There is no indication that Rayco was injured in the storm.

"I hoped that he was nearby," Manoushagian said. "This is his home, this is his house, and I just kind of felt like surely he wouldn't go that far away."

He was last seen near the Weatherford College Wise County Campus near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1655 and U.S. Highway 380 between Decatur and Bridgeport.

Since Sunday morning, sheriff's deputies have been using drones and the Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter to help them search for Rayco.

"He is my partner, he is very much a member of my family and he's a member of the Wise County family," Manoushagian said.

The K-9 has been with the sheriff's office for two years.

"Several apprehensions with him, hundreds of pounds of drugs seized using his nose," Manoushagian said. "He's a very valuable part of what we do here."
