Wind Gusts Made House Fire Fight Difficult in Plano

Whipping winds made it difficult to fight a large house fire in Plano Thursday afternoon.[[369320701,C]]

The fire started just before 2 p.m. at a home on the 1700 block of Montana Trail.

Plano firefighters are still trying to extinguish the flames, but wind gusts are making it hard to contain the blaze.

A woman, presumed to be a neighbor, could be seen using a garden hose to soak her wooden fence to prevent it from catching fire.

A Plano Fire Rescue spokesperson said the fire started in the back of the home and wind caused blew flames into other parts of the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries have been reported. The spokesperson said no one was home at the time.

Students at nearby Thomas Elementary School couldn't be released out the front of the school because of heavy smoke.

Plano police re-routed parents and students during dismissal.

North Texas is under a wind advisory until 6 p.m. Thursday.  The National Weather Service has said the entire region should be aware of elevated fire conditions; an area under critical fire danger exists along the Bowie/Mineral Wells line west of DFW
