West Texas Officer Injured After Dragged by Car

A West Texas police officer is recovering after being dragged about 900 yards and then thrown off a vehicle.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported Slaton police Officer Paul Rucker was directing traffic Friday evening at a car show when a driver refused to cooperate.

Police Chief Trevor Barnes said a physical altercation then took place in which Rucker was dragged by the car before the officer was thrown off, landing in a bar ditch.

Rucker was taken to a Lubbock hospital for treatment of various injuries, including road rash and a major bruise to his head. He was later released from the hospital.

Police said a person of interest has been questioned but no charges have been filed.

Slaton is located about 17 miles southeast of Lubbock.
