West Nile Virus Found in Cedar Hill

Thursday night at 10 p.m., trucks will spray an area in Cedar Hill after a mosquito carrying the West Nile virus was found in one of the five traps in the area.

According to the city's website, the trucks will go through the Highpoint area, and other neighborhoods between Farm-to-Market Road 1382 and west of U.S. Highway 67.

People in the area said they were not prepared for it yet, but will now start thinking about wearing mosquito spray and dumping any standing water near their homes.

ā€œI was surprised to hear it coming out quite this early. But we saw a few mosquitoes around in the backyard the other day, so we know they are here. So, might as well get a jump on it and start spraying,ā€ said Cedar Hill resident, Charles Davenport.

The trucks will go through a second time on Monday night.

The Dallas County Health Department urges everyone remember the four Dā€™s, which are dress in loose, long clothing; drain standing water; limit outdoor activities during dusk and dawn; and use a mosquito spray with deet, picaridin, or eucalyptus.
