Website Provides Detailed Recall Information

In a record year for vehicle recalls, there's a new way to find out if your vehicle has been recalled and not repaired.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched a new online tool — safercar.gov — in which car buyers and owners can use a vehicle identification number to identify open or unrepaired safety recalls.

The agency also said used-car buyers can check for unrepaired vehicles before they make a purchase.

About 37.5 million vehicles were recalled in the United States during the first six months of this year, which is more than any prior year.
