Weatherford Smokehouse Opens Fridge to Help Feed Community

If you’re driving through Weatherford, you’ll find Dan’s Smokehouse tucked away off a dirt road.

On the front porch of the smokehouse is a fridge with a piece of paper taped on the front door quoting Mother Teresa stating, “I cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples."

And that’s exactly what Dan Hamilton, the owner of the smokehouse, and his family is trying to do with the fridge.

The community fridge is open 24 hours per day, and is available for anyone who needs something to eat. Inside the fridge, you can find everything from meats and cheeses to eggs and condiments.

Hamilton said it’s a community effort. People from all over bring food they are not going to eat and leave it for someone else. As a father of seven, he wanted to help other people who may need a hand.

"There's been times in our lives where a couple bags of groceries would have been nice. We'd never had to do that, but if we can do that for people there is no shame… but we can help people,” he said.

They have also added a shelf next to the fridge filled with toilettes and cleaning supplies for anyone who needs it.
