WISD Holds Groundbreaking for New Schools

West Independent School District is holding a groundbreaking ceremony for a new campus at 9:45 a.m. Thursday.

West High School and West Middle School will be constructed in the 1000 block of Jerry Mashek Drive.

The old schools were damaged by the April 2013 Fertilizer Plant Explosion. Students have been in portable classrooms for the past year and a half.

Insurance money and government funds are helping pay for the $50 million project.

The new school is expected to be finished next year.
