Volunteer Firefighter Charged With Setting Wildfire

Man was lieutenant with the volunteer fire department just outside Abilene

A volunteer firefighter has been charged with setting a wildfire in Jones County last year.

Taylor Dupree Partain was charged with arson, a second-degree felony, in connection with a May wildfire. The 24-year-old has been a lieutenant with the Hamby Volunteer Fire Department, just outside Abilene.

The fire was extinguished by local firefighters.

The Texas Forest Service said it began investigating Partain after he was recently charged with first-degree arson. He was arrested last week after a fire at Hamby United Methodist Church.

Partain remained jailed Friday in Taylor County on $110,000 bond. Jail officials had no information on an attorney.

Last year's wildfire season was the most devastating in Texas history. Blazes destroyed nearly 4 million acres and more than 2,900 homes, and 10 people died.
