Visible Security at D/FW Airport After Brussels Terror Attacks

Security was visible Tuesday afternoon at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, hours after the terror attacks in Brussels.

A TSA bomb-sniffing dog wandered through the security line every few minutes with its handler, while police watched over the crowd.

"It scares you a lot. You really have to think about traveling and how secure the traveling is," said Madhu Pamar, as she waited in the Transportation Security Administration line. "I hope they do the best job and make sure things are taken care of."

An airport spokesman would not elaborate on what security measures D/FW Airport was taking, except to say the airport was being "vigilant" and keeping in touch with its security partners.

Aviation security expert Michael Restovich said the threat posed Tuesday is not new.

"This vulnerability that exists from the curbside to the checkpoint has been around for some time, and the TSA has recognized that," he said.

Restovich retired from the TSA and U.S. Secret Service and is now a partner with Command Consulting Group, a security consulting firm based in Washington D.C.

"The threat is real," Restovich warned. "It's just not something that happens some place else. It'll happen here as well."

Restovich said it's not likely we'll see security checkpoints outside American airports.

"It's just unrealistic," Restovich pointed out. "In this country it's about space, money, and time. It's just not going to happen."

Restovich said airport travelers might see more K-9 units, police and random inspections because of the recent attacks.
