Virgin America Flight Returns to Love Field After Bird Strike: FAA

Flight from Dallas to New York delayed after bird hits cockpit window

Virgin America Flight 762 from Dallas Love Field to New York LaGuardia made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff Friday morning due to a bird strike, the Federal Aviation Administration confirms.

The pilot of the A319 reported a bird strike on the cockpit windshield and diverted back to Love Field where he landed without incident.

Chopper 5 flew over Love Field shortly after the bird strike was reported and recorded video of crew members attending to the front of the aircraft, though no obvious damage was visible.

Virgin America later confirmed to NBC 5 that the plane was not damaged and that it will be used to take the delayed passengers to LGA.

In 2013 and 2014, NBC 5 Investigates did a series of reports on the dangers of bird strikes at Dallas Love Field Airport with respect to departures over Bachman Lake. Traffic Friday morning appears to be taking off toward downtown and not over the lake.
