Vigil Planned for 2 Texas Women Shot in Park

Police say motive for attack remains a mystery

Friends and supporters of a South Texas couple are to gather in the Gulf shore park where they were shot. Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the attack that left one woman dead and her girlfriend seriously injured.

Police say 19-year-old Mollie Olgin of Ingleside was killed and 18-year-old Mary Kristene Chapa was wounded last Friday night in Violet Andrews Park in Portland, about seven miles north of Corpus Christi.

Police describe the suspected gunman as a 5-foot-8-inch, 140-pound white male in his 20s with dark hair.

Police say the motive for the attack remains a mystery, and Police Chief Randy Wright has said police found no evidence suggesting the women's relationship was somehow involved. However, it triggered an outpouring of support nationwide, especially in the gay and lesbian community.
