Vigil Held for San Antonio River Walk Duck

Dozens of people have attended a vigil for a friendly duck known for strolling along San Antonio's River Walk until the animal was beaten and killed.

An informal memorial service was held Thursday night for the duck fondly called George.

San Antonio Crime Stoppers has organized donations leading to a $15,000 reward for information about two men seen on surveillance video carrying the duck. The carcass of the red-masked Muscovy duck was discovered May 29.

Vigil organizer Angela Tudor says George had been at the River Walk for many years and was much loved. The animal was known for hanging out near a Mexican restaurant where the vigil was held.

Conviction on a cruelty to animal charge carries a penalty of up to two years in state jail.
