Veteran's Flags Stolen, Crime Caught on Camera

A thief made off with two flags that belong to a U.S. Army veteran, and it was caught on camera.

The theft happened early Saturday in Greenville, and the flags' rightful owner is asking for their return.

Vietnam veteran Ray Kuykendall says he immediately called police after he watched the doorbell camera video of the thief stealing his flags. He's hopeful the video is clear enough for someone to recognize him.

The flags were stolen from Kuykendall's home near Bonham and Sayle streets in Greenville. In the video, the perpetrator is seen covering his face with a T-shirt as he swipes not one but two of the flags off the front porch.

The man is seen dragging the American flag across the ground as he struggles to steal a police flag. He then runs off and gets into the passenger side of a white SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban, Greenville police say.

The crime has disturbed the veteran who says he was only trying to represent America and support police.

"Not only did they disrespect the flags, but they're tearing property down and costing money that people have to pay for to get back," Kuykendall said. "I don't think people should be treated the way that they are."

Greenville police posted the video on their Facebook page and are asking anyone with information about this crime to call them at 903-457-2917.
