Urban Planners Present Trinity Toll Road Ideas

A group of urban planners on Tuesday presented ideas for a controversial toll road project along the Trinity River in Dallas.

The proposed Trinity Parkway is aimed at relieving some of the city's most congested highways.

The Trinity Commons Foundation heard proposals from 12 urban planners.

Larry Beasley, who chaired the group, said they don’t need to build the plan sent up for government approval right now.

Rather, they approached the project from the angle of don’t let the tollway design the road, let the park design the road, he said. Their plan is on a smaller scale and calls for four lanes instead of six, fewer ramps, and different landscaping.

β€œThe most important thing is the parkway has to provide real access into the park for people. Not only should it be seen as a way to drive through the park, you need to be able to get off of the parkway on both sides, park your car and get onto the walkway system,” said Beasley.

The plan goes to City Council for consideration on Thursday.
