Uber Driver Accused in Sexual Assault: Dallas Police

A man working as an Uber driver is suspected of sexually assaulting a woman whom he had just given a ride home, Dallas police say.

Police said 56-year-old Talal Ali Chammout picked up the woman in the area near McKinney Avenue and Cedar Springs Road at about 8 p.m. on July 25 and drove to the 2200 block of West Colorado Avenue.

When the woman exited the vehicle and went inside her home, Chammout allegedly followed her inside against her wishes and assaulted her, police said.

Chammout was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony, police said.

A spokesperson for Uber said "We take these reports seriously and our thoughts are with the victim. The driver was immediately banned once we learned of the allegations and Uber’s safety team is working with the Dallas Police Department on their investigation.
