UTA Posts Highest Enrollment in School History

It’s another record-setting year for the University of Texas at Arlington, as enrollment numbers continue to soar.

The university says 34,899 students are taking classes on campus this fall. That’s a five percent jump from last year and a 65 percent increase from 2001.

School officials say their engineering, education and nursing programs are fueling most of that growth.

“We’ve been focusing on areas where there’s a workforce need,” said Vistasp Karbhari, President of UTA.

“And we’ve really been meeting those workforce needs. Students who come here know they’re going to get jobs," said Karbhari. "They know they’re going to be employed and they’re coveted by very many people in the corporate world.”

UTA is the second largest school in the University of Texas system, behind UT-Austin.

Karbhari said one of UTA’s greatest challenges moving forward will be finding more space for the university so it can continue to accommodate this growth.
