Suspect Arrested in UTA Fondling Case: Police

Police at the University of Texas at Arlington say a man has been arrested following reports of alleged forcible fondling and indecent exposure Tuesday afternoon.

Daron Nickens was jailed Wednesday on a charge of offensive or provocative contact and an unrelated traffic offense, police said.

Nickens was stopped Wednesday afternoon in a UTA campus parking lot in the 500 block of South Cooper Street, and police said they positively identified him through surveillance video images.

Investigators said the first alleged incident was reported Tuesday at about 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Pecan Street, where a man on an elevator in the parking garage at the Heights on Pecan apartments slapped a victim's buttocks with his hand and ran away.

About seven minutes later, a woman was walking in the 1000 block of South Pecan Street when a man motioned for her to come closer to him. That's when the man exposed his genitals to the woman, police said.

UTA students were vigilant on campus Tuesday night.

“I never really walk around campus at night, but if I did I'd definitely keep my eyes open out for anything that’s going on,” said junior Jazmyn Satchell.

“I thought it was like a little bizarre when I got [the campus crime alert], and then I thought, 'You know maybe it could be possibly serious, could lead to something else,' so I’m glad they reported it,” said freshman Dominique Stansberry.
