UTA Choir Shares Unforgettable Moment on Stage with the Rolling Stones

A group of University of Texas at Arlington students got a lot of "Satisfaction" over the weekend when performing on stage at AT&T Stadium with the Rolling Stones.

Under the lights of a 400-seat performance hall is where the UT-Arlington A Cappella Choir typically shines.

But on Saturday, 24 members of the choir got to walk out to a capacity crowd at AT&T Stadium and share the stage with rock legends.

"Everybody's emotions, everyone's energy was just ready to explode," said Sam Diffley, a bass singer in the choir.

The Rolling Stones contacted UTA this spring and made an offer the university couldn't refuse. They were looking for a choir to join the band on stage at AT&T Stadium for their iconic hit "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and asked if one of the school's music groups could fit that bill.

"When we found out, all of us just threw our hands in the air, screaming," said Lilly Bailey, a soprano singer in the choir. "It's not every day that the Rolling Stones ask you to sing with them, so it was intense."

As part of the agreement, the group had to keep its involvement in the show under wraps. They held several secret meetings and rehearsals to get ready.

"Not being able to talk about it was really, really hard," said Bailey. "But it was worth it."

Although they knew the performance was coming, the students said it wasn't until they pulled up to AT&T Stadium Saturday that it really hit them.

"It just finally sunk in, like there it is," said Linsley Liburd, a tenor singer in the choir. "We're going to be on that stage later tonight with possibly the most incredible band of our time."

After sound check, the students got to watch the early part of the concert from the floor, then headed backstage to get ready. Before they knew it, it was go time.

"I was really trying hard to take everything in because I knew it was going to be gone in eight minutes," said Diffley. "It was definitely quite the experience."

"I was nervous going up there," said Liburd. "But when we were finally on stage, it all went away."

The choir delivered, drawing praise from the crowd and Mick Jagger, who thanked them after the performance.

The Rolling Stones front man even snapped a picture of the choir.

"We're on Mick Jagger's phone," laughed Liburd. "Wow."

Choir director Brianna Carroll, who conducted the choir onstage, said she's extremely proud.

"I thought they did awesome," said Carroll. "I felt very privileged to be able to do that."

And as they watch smartphone video of the performance, they said awesome doesn't even begin to describe this experience.

"It's something I will always remember for the rest of my life," said Diffley.
