UT Refining $23 Million Plan to Renovate Intramural Fields

Officials at the University of Texas at Austin have put together a revised funding plan for renovations for the school's 35-acre intramural complex.

University President Gregory L. Fenves is asking the UT System Board of Regents to approve the revised funding at its August meeting.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that UT's governing board authorized $23 million in renovations in 2009, requiring all of the money come from donors. But work at Whitaker Field never started.

Correspondence obtained by the newspaper under the Texas Public Information Act shows that the new plan, still priced at $23 million, consists of $1.2 million in donations, $16 million in bond proceeds and $5.8 million from reserves.

Planned renovations include tennis court repairs, additional restrooms, new bleachers and a new entry building.
