UT Professor, Husband Killed in Plane Crash

Investigators say a couple from the metro Atlanta area have died in the crash of a small plane in Georgia and one victim was a University of Texas professor.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says a Hawker Beechcraft A36 went down Sunday afternoon near Alma, about 70 miles northwest of Brunswick.

Bacon County Coroner Vic Peacock says Sid Shah of Tucker and Shama Gamkhar were killed.

The Austin American-Statesman reports Gamkhar was a public affairs professor at UT in Austin and the couple lived in different cities but would often fly to see each other. Her husband was a pilot.

Bergen says the plane was flying from Fernandina Beach, Fla. to Lawrenceville, Ga. when the crash happened.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
