UT Focuses on SAE Chapter to Avoid OU-Type Issue

The University of Texas at Austin is focusing on its Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter in an effort to avoid a University of Oklahoma-type problem on its campus.

OU President David Boren expelled two students and shutdown the SAE chapter after video of a racist chant during a fraternity event went viral.

In a statement released Wednesday the dean of students said her office had been made aware of online allegations of similar behavior at UT.

Soncia Reagins-Lilly says her office contacted UT's SAE chapter and members said they do not perform the chant or anything similar.

"They also confirmed never having heard the chant before and stated such behavior had no place in their organization," the statement said.

Reagins-Lilly's office is reaching out to former and current students involved with SAE for "a more complete review."
