U.S. Highway 67 was closed for more than two hours in Somervell County, west of Glen Rose, because of a car crash that killed four people and injured seven others on Friday.
NBC 5 has confirmed that four people were killed when a Kia Sedona and a Pontiac Bonneville collided head-on along the undivided two-lane highway at about 1:15 p.m.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Dub Gilliam said the Bonneville's driver, Abel Perez, 44, of Stratford, crossed the center line and hit the Sedona.
According to police, the family riding in the Sedona were headed to a family reunion and were being followed by other family members in a second vehicle that was not involved in the crash.
The driver of the Sedona, 57-year-old Mark Burns, was killed in the crash, along with his wife, 52-year-old Darla Burns, and his mother, 90-year-old Wanda Burns. Injured in the Sedona were three teenage girls, ages 14, 15 and 16, who were all transported to hospitals in Fort Worth by air ambulance.
Police said there were five occupants in the Bonneville sedan. The front-seat passenger was killed in the crash. Perez, a teenager and two other children that were inside the car were all hospitalized after the crash.
The scene of the crash, near County Road 2016 east of Chalk Mountain, is near two popular tourist destinations, Dinosaur Valley State Park and Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.
