TxDOT Inspects Fort Worth Overpass After Fatal Wreck

Fort Worth police said they're investigating a deadly crash that happened on Interstate 30 Sunday night.

A driver crashed into an overpass on eastbound I-30 near Linkcrest Drive at about 8:50 p.m., according to authorities.

Police said a truck driver saw the car on fire and pulled over. He tried, but was unable to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher.

Officers responded and found one person deceased in the vehicle, police said. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Because the vehicle crashed into a column, Texas Department of Transportation engineers inspected the overpass to ensure its safety. TxDOT spokesman Val Lopez said they determined the overpass was safe to drive on at about 1 a.m.

Authorities said they do no know the cause of the wreck, but they think the driver was speeding. Fort Worth police said they are still looking for people who witnessed the wreck.
