Two Mesquite Residents Shot After Leaving Same Check Cashing Store at Different Times

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information

Two Mesquite residents who were shot Monday morning are seriously injured after leaving the same check cashing store at different times and allegedly being followed to their homes.

On Monday morning, two Hispanic men were both shot after leaving the same check cashing establishment, which is leading Mesquite police to believe the two separate shootings may be connected.

Mesquite police said that the first victim was shot at around 7:40 a.m. at the 3600 block of Byrd Drive, where he lives. The other victim was shot at around 8:45 a.m. at the 4300 block of Gus Thomasson Road, also his home.

Because both victims left the same check cashing store within an hour (PLS Check Cashing at the 2100 block of North Town East Boulevard), police said that the shooter is possibly one person “targeting Hispanics who have recently visited check cashing establishments, perhaps for the purpose of robbery.”

Police said the robber allegedly showed up at each residence as they were getting out of their cars. They said the person shot the victims with a handgun and ran from the scene.

The victims were both hospitalized in serious condition.

The robber has been described by police as a thin black man in his late teens to early 20’s, around six feet tall, and wearing a dark-colored T-shirt and shorts. He was seen entering a dark-colored sedan which police said is the vehicle shown to the right. It has damage to the right front headlight.

Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest and indictment of this man is urged to call Crime Stoppers for a reward of up to $5,000. Call Crime Stoppers at 214-373-TIPS, or contact Mesquite police at 972-285-6336.
