Two Injured in TRE Train Collision with Vehicle in Fort Worth

Two people are injured after a Trinity Railway Express train collided with a vehicle Tuesday in Fort Worth.

The collision was reported before 10 p.m. along Mosier Valley Road near Farm-to-Market Road 157 in northeastern Tarrant County.

Two people from the vehicle were transported to John Peter Smith Hospital. One of them was reportedly in critical condition, according to MedStar officials.

No injuries were reported to any of the nearly 50 passengers or crew members on the TRE train.

The crash remains under investigation, and other details were not released.

City to Address Crossing

The railroad crossing was already on the radar of the Fort Worth city council and staff.

An informal report on making the crossing a quiet zone was provided to the council this week and was available for discussion during the pre-council meeting on Tuesday.

In order to make the area a quiet zone, safety improvements must be installed. A quiet zone is where trains are not allowed to sound their 110 decibel horns unless in an emergency situation. Presently trains sound their horns every time they cross.

City staff looked at closing the crossing, as Mosier Valley Road is not heavily traveled. But ultimately recommended the city install a four-quadrant gate system.

The crossing has two gate arms, one for each side, but the change would add two additional arms to prevent drivers from accidentally or intentionally driving around the arms. It's a measure that could cost $1.6 million and would be paid for through the 2018 Bond Program if approved.

The city also looked at a more targeted horn system that would reduce noise and curb installments to prevent navigating around the gates.

The council has not yet taken action on the proposals for the crossing.
