Two Indicted, Charged in Murder of Dallas Carter Graduate LeDajrick Rajae Cox

Suspect's cousin comes forward after drive-by shooting kills teen

Two people arrested in connection with the fatal drive-by shooting of a recent high school graduate have now been indicted on murder charges.

According to indictments filed Tuesday, LeDajrick (L.D.) Rajae Cox was shot and killed May 28, after witnesses said he got into a verbal confrontation outside a convenience store with three others.

Davonte Wright told police he was with his cousin, 26-year-old Courtney Ray Wright, and 17-year-old Jeremiah Robinson when they stopped at an Irving 7-Eleven. He also said his cousin made comments about a woman as she walked toward the store, leading to a verbal confrontation with her friends.

Cox, who had been pumping gas into the woman's car, walked over and had some kind of discussion with the people in the car, Davonte Wright said. He added they "appeared to have the issue resolved" and that "they shook hands" before Cox went back to his vehicle.

Both groups then got in their cars and left. That's when police said Courtney Wright pulled alongside the woman's car and Robinson opened fire, fatally wounding Cox and injuring two others.

Cox, who graduated from David W. Carter High School just five hours before the shooting, was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas where he died from injuries to his head and chest. The other two victims were treated and released from the hospital, police said.

Davonte Wright came forward the next day, police said, and told them his cousin pulled alongside the other vehicle and that Robinson rolled down the window, leaned out and fired several shots into the other car.

The Dallas County District Attorney's Office released the indictments against both Wright and Robinson on Tuesday. Both have been charged with murder, a first degree felony. A trial date has not yet been set.

"Ledajrick was a recent high school graduate who had so much to look forward to when his young life was cut short by this senseless tragedy," District Attorney Faith Johnson said. "As his family continues to grieve their loss, we continue to pray for them. These indictments are the first step towards justice in his memory."

In his conversation with police, Davonte Wright added that he didn't know why his cousin followed Cox that night and that he didn't know Robinson was even carrying a handgun. He told police that after the shooting his cousin drove down Walnut Hill and pulled into Robinson's apartment complex.
