Two Dallas Officers Arrested on Family Violence Charges

In unrelated incidents, the Dallas Police Department says two of their officers have been arrested on family violence charges.

On Nov. 30, Officer Rashad Allen, was issued a family violence assault citation, a Class C misdemeanor, by the DeSoto Police Department.  The Dallas police have put Allen, who is assigned to the South Central Patrol Division, on administrative leave.

On Dec. 2, Officer Edgar Garcia-Martinez was issued a family violence assault, a Class A misdemeanor, by the Dallas Police Department.  The Dallas police have put Garcia-Martinez, who is also assigned to the South Central Patrol Division, on administrative leave.

Police said the incidents were not related and that both of the officers were off-duty at the time of the alleged offenses. No further details about the incidents were released.

The Class C misdemeanor is equal to a traffic citation in severity and offenders generally face a fine.  The Class A misdemeanor is more serious, and may result in jail time as well as a fine.   Both offenses could put the careers of both officers in jeopardy.

The Dallas Police Department's Internal Affairs Division will now investigate both alleged offenses.
