At about 8 p.m. a woman and her 7-year-old daughter, Ning Et, were walking in the crosswalk at Pineland Drive and Fair Oaks Avenue when a Ford Expedition turning onto Fair Oaks struck them both, police said.

The child was pronounced deceased, and her mother was transported to the hospital. The mother's condition is not yet known, but she is stable.

Investigators said the driver of the Expedition remained at the scene, and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.

It is unknown whether the driver will face any charges.

And at about 8:15 p.m. a driver backing up a minivan in the driveway of a home in the 3600 block of Dawes Drive struck a 2-year-old girl, police said.

The child, later identified as Monica Becerra-Navarro, was rushed to Methodist Central Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Police said the driver and Becerra-Navarro live in the same house but are not related.
