Police Arrest Two in Connection With Fort Worth Woman's Slaying

Fort Worth police said they think two people killed a woman found dead after an apartment fire so they could rob the woman's employer.

On Nov. 28, firefighters said they found 31-year-old Ashlea Harris after extinguishing a small fire in the 4700 block of King Ranch Road and called Fort Worth police to investigate.

After investigating, police said 19-year-old Clarence David Mallory and 26-year-old Carter Carol Cervantez tied Harris up, strangled her and set her on fire so they could get the keys to the American Eagle store where she worked and steal a bank deposit.

Late Saturday, Marshals took Mallory into custody at a private residence in the Amarillo area. Tarrant County Sheriffs deputies arrested Cervantez and took her to the Tarrant County Jail.

Both face capital murder warrants and the bond for each was set at $500,000.

Officers also said both Mallory and Cervantez were arrested in connection with an $18,000 theft from the American Eagle Outfitters store at Hulen Mall.

There are more questions than answers after a 31-year-old Fort Worth woman was killed and an apartment set on fire last week.

Harris was an employee of American Eagle Outfitters, which issued this statement:

""We are saddened to hear of the death of Ashlea Harris. We are working closely with local authorities to ensure a thorough and effective investigation. On behalf of American Eagle Outfitters, our thoughts and prayers are with Ashlea's family and her loved ones."

In an earlier report, NBC 5 identified Carter Carol Cervantez as a man. Cervantez is in fact a women.
