Tryouts for Return of Texas Wesleyan Football Draw Hundreds

More than 200 players showed up in Hurst Sunday for a chance at one of 75 spots on Texas Wesleyan University's first football team since 1941.

"I'm looking for kids to do things the right way," Texas Wesleyan head coach Joe Prud'homme said. "I'm looking for kids, obviously athletic ability is part of it, but we're looking for kids that really respond well to coaching. They can take what we teach them and apply it immediately."

Starting from scratch isn't easy.

"There's all kinds of challenges," Prud'homme said. "You don't have anything, you have nothing to draw fro, but in a way you have a blank slate as well."

The last time the Rams played on the gridiron was just prior to the United States involvement in World War II.

"We look at this as a very honorable tradition that we're going to carry on," Prud'homme said. "The guys done like that in the past it's going to be an honor to step on the field for Texas Wesleyan in the future."

The team will play NAIA Division 1 starting in Fall of 2017

"We're building something special over there, it's going to be great, we've got a chance to make Fort Worth proud," Prud'homme said.
