Two Dallas schools could be renamed to honor President Barack Obama and new Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor.

DISD trustee Ron Price is recommending two Fair Park campuses as candidates for renaming, the Dallas Morning News reports.  Price asks that Dade Middle Learning Center be renamed for the first black president and Roberts Elementary renamed for the first Hispanic to on the Supreme Court.

"I want my kids in my district to be able to go to a school named after somebody they actually know something about," Price told the paper. "These aspiring kids need to have role models that they can see and not only read about."

Price said he didn't expect to receive opposition from the school board on renaming the campuses, though there are a couple of hurdles to cross. The board will have to rescind a previous approval to rename Roberts after Ray Hunt Sr., and the board will also have to waive a policy that stipulates the honorees be age 70 or older.

The recommendations are on the agenda for next week's board briefing and is scheduled for a vote on Aug. 27.
