A truck driver is in critical condition after being beaten nearly to death by a baseball bat during a robbery.

The attack happened early Thursday morning at a truck rest stop off exit 470 on I-20, at the intersection of Cherry Valley Blvd and Lancaster Road in Dallas.

Dallas police said the suspect robbed and beat the driver outside of his truck, and then ran to a nearby Days Inn, where he was arrested. The suspect's name has not been released.

Officers said the suspect had bruises on his face from when the truck driver tried to defend himself during the assault.

Paramedics rushed the driver to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. There are large, dried pools of blood at the crime scene, indicating the level of violence in the attack. The victim's name has not been released.
