A witness told NBC 5 he called 911 when he saw two people in a truck break into the Exxon gas station on the 2000 block of Fort Worth Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. and take the ATM.

The crooks knock over shelves to clear space for the ATM. It was bolted down, but they wrapped a chain around it and β€” a possible third suspect β€” used the truck pull it loose.

Police said the store clerk was in the walk-in freezer when he heard the glass break. He ran when he realized what was happening.

At about 4 a.m., residents of a neighborhood near the intersection of Muncie Avenue and Vilbig Road called 911 and reported suspicious activity. Police said they responded and found a truck with ATM in the bed in a nearby field.

Dozens of officers and a police helicopter were used to search for the robbers. Police said they pulled over a vehicle with two men and a pry bar inside, one of whom was detained while the other ran toward the neighborhood.

Police said officers blocked all the neighborhood's entrances and exits and used the helicopter and spotlight to search the area.

A K-9 officer and his dog, Mirko, tracked and found the man hiding under a house and arrested him.

Police have not yet released the names of the men taken into custody or announced any charges.

Paul Sidhu, who owns the Exxon gas station, said it was the second time people stole the ATM from his store in 2015.

"It is frustrating, but we have no control over it," he said. "We tried to move the ATM to another location, but now they had a different plan."

NBC 5's Jeff Smith contributed to this report.
