Tropical Storm Bill Causes Travel Headaches

Several flights were delayed or canceled Tuesday, and travelers can expect more of the same Wednesday as Tropical Storm Bill threatens to dump several inches of rain on North Texas.

Jack Delpapa, of Lake Charles, and his 10 grandchildren were wrapping up a perfect vacation when Bill affected their travel plans.

They had traveled to Pueblo, Colo., and their route home brought them through Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, where the last leg of their trip to Lake Charles had been canceled because of the storm.

"We're used to this. We've lived on the Louisiana coast for 35 years," Delpapa said. "We've went through at least one hurricane. We've been following the storm for the last five days and we thought we might get lucky and might be able to slip in. It messed up our plans, but you know, we're retired, we're OK. The kids are out of school for summer, so we're fine."

Similar stories are expected Wednesday as intense rainfall from Bill is expected in the morning hours and could continue all day.

Many airlines are waiving their fees to rebook flights for customers with scheduled flights on Wednesday. Restrictions do apply, and travelers are encouraged to contact their airline.
