Trooper Shoots Man During Scuffle After Chase

Trooper not injured in shooting

    The trooper was not injured.

A Texas state trooper shot a man in the stomach Wednesday afternoon following scuffle and traffic stop, officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

The trooper was in pursuit of the motorcycle along Interstate 35 when Frank David Correia, 41, exited Farm-to-Market Road 922 before stopping on North Shore Drive. The motorcyclist came after the trooper, officials said.

The pair got into a scuffle, and the trooper ended up pulling out his weapon and shooting the man in the stomach.

The man was later taken by air ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. The trooper was not injured.

DPS said Correia was riding a stolen motorcycle from Oklahoma.

Valley View is north of Denton not far from the northern edge of Lake Ray Roberts in Cooke County.
