A Texas state trooper was involved in a serious head-on collision on U.S. 380 in McKinney on Friday night.
The crash occurred on U.S. 380 near state Highway 5 after 8 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
The veteran trooper was traveling eastbound on U.S. 380 when a pickup truck pulled out of a private driveway and tried to beat the trooper, investigators said. The trooper ended up under the bed of the truck, which was thrown airborne.
The front of the trooper's vehicle was demolished. It took paramedics about 30 minutes to extract the trooper from his patrol car, but he is alert and talking at a local hospital.
The truck driver, who was also transported to an area hospital, was also stable, authorities said.
