A transgender senior's bid to be named homecoming queen has failed.

Students voted on nominees for the homecoming court. The list announced Monday did not include 18-year-old Andy Moreno.

Moreno was born male but identifies herself as female.

North Dallas High School Principal Dinah Escanilla told Moreno to run for homecoming king, not queen, if the student wished to try for the homecoming court. Moreno then alleged discrimination.

A school district spokeswoman declined to release the vote totals.

The homecoming king and queen will be chosen, by students, at a dance on Saturday night.
