A Union Pacific train carrying between 40 and 50 cars derailed Wednesday in Mesquite near the intersection of Clay Mathis Road and East Scyene Road.

The train stopped west of Clay Mathis with at least one car about 4 feet off of the tracks.  Officials could be seen examining the tracks east of Clay Mathis.

The intersection at Clay Mathis and Scyene, adjacent to the tracks, is currently closed.

Officials have not said what the train was hauling, but there was no spillage.  No injuries were reported.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
