Traffic Alert in Collin County This Weekend

The Texas Department of Transportation is planning a major traffic shift over the weekend that will affect drivers on U.S. Highway 75 in Collin County.

TxDOT pushed back the start of work on the highway expansion project, originally set for Saturday, until Sunday because of expected rain in the area.

Once underway, traffic will be shifted onto new pavement between Bloomdale and Telephone roads.

However, during the switch, only one lane will be open, meaning some drivers will exit the highway and drive single-file along the service road for miles before re-entering the main lanes.

On Sunday, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., the construction will affect southbound traffic between Melissa and McKinney.

On Monday night, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, it will impact northbound traffic in the same area.

The bridge over Bloomdale Road will also be closed, as well as some ramps between U.S. 75 and State Highway 121.

TxDOT plans to have police help in directing traffic through detours.

A spokesperson tells NBC 5 that TxDOT is planning to stop lane closures on U.S. 75 starting on Tuesday, Nov. 25, to help make Thanksgiving travel easier on drivers.
