Tornado Victim and Nurse Reunited Two Months After Deadly Storm

Danyell Furman helped Morris Carr until he was transported to the hospital

Two months after the deadly storms of December 26, 2015, two people are reunited.

Danyell Furman, a nurse, barely got down the road from her apartment in Garland when the tornado struck.

She hunkered down inside her car along the Interstate 30 frontage road and sustained minor injuries.

When the tornado passed, Furman searched for survivors.

"I think it's just God being with me and giving me the strength because I know I was in a considerable amount of pain, but it didn't matter because at that moment I knew people needed help," Furman said. "I don't care how well you train, it was just unbelievable. The people screaming. The devastation of the cars. The people on the ground."

Furman found Morris Carr trapped inside his SUV.

With the help of first responders and other Good Samaritans, Carr was extricated from the car along with his cousin.

Carr's girlfriend, Sharva Sanders, died at the scene.

"I believe she (Furman) was our angel. Thank you for coming to my side that night, I'm glad to have met you," Carr told Furman in a reunion on Saturday afternoon. "I don't call it luck, I call it blessed, I'm blessed to be here today."

Furman assessed Carr from head to toe at the scene and provided him comfort through prayer.

"God pulled me through. He heard the prayers and he answered them," Carr said.

Carr, who was placed in a medically induced coma, suffered multiple injuries including broken ribs, a broken pelvis, a shattered arm, and a punctured lung.

Carr said his road to recovery is only beginning. Physical and speech therapy is on going, and his medical bills are piling up.

"God made me a strong believer that night. I'm going to keep on believing," he said.
