Toddler, Mom Injured in Fort Worth Apartment Fire

A 2-year-old toddler and the 23-year-old mother are recovering from serious 2nd-degree burns after escaping an apartment fire in Fort Worth Wednesday night.

The fire started at about 10:30 p.m. at an apartment on the 5300 block of Rosedale Street.

Firefighters happened to already be at the complex on an unrelated medical call, so when residents ran up to the firefighters screaming about the fire and a child trapped inside they were ready to respond.

When firefighters arrived at the building the saw heavy fire coming from the second floor. The woman had child, who suffered serious burns on their arms and legs, had already escaped their home.

The mother and her child were rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas for treatment as firefighters tackled the blaze and rescued the families puppy.

Several apartments suffered heavy smoke and water damage, but the fire itself was limited to one apartment.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. 

No other injuries were reported.
