Three Shot Outside Dallas Grocery Store Thursday Night

Three people were shot outside a Dallas grocery store during an attempted armed robbery Thursday night, and the gunman is still on the run.

It happened at the a Minyard food store at the corner of North Hampton Road and Singleton Boulevard just after 10 p.m.

Dallas police said  a Minyard employee, an armed security guard and a witness were collecting money from the gas pumps in the parking lot when a man with a gun approached them in the parking lot and demanded the bag of money.

The group ran through the parking lot with the gunman chasing them and according to Dallas police, the security guard and gunman exchanged gunfire in front of the store.

Police said the security guard suffered two gunshot wounds, and a man and a woman in the parking lot were also hit by bullets -- a woman was shot in the arm and a man was shot in the back. All three were taken to a local hospital for treatment but there's no word on their conditions.

The store manager was also grazed by a bullet.

One shopper praised the security guard.

“I think that is a brave thing. I do security myself," said shopper Jeff Morehead. "I know it’s a risk, but at the same time, you are there to protect and you are trying to do a job and make sure everybody gets in and out as safe as can be. So, I believe he did his job, and thankfully he made it through.”

There are several businesses in this plaza, including David’s next door. The owner, Abe Esquenazi, says the business has been in his family since 1963, and this is shocking.

“It’s a small town over here within the big city. We don’t see stuff like that,” said Esquenazi.

The gunman ran away without getting any money.

Police do not have a good description of the man. The investigation is ongoing.
