Thieves Nabbing Rims, Wheels, Backseats From SUVs

Police in North Texas are on the lookout for "backseat bandits"

Police in North Texas are on the lookout for "backseat bandits."

In the last few weeks there have been at least five cases of thieves ripping off rims, wheels and backseats from bigger SUVs.

Police in University Park, Highland Park and Dallas are comparing cases to see if they're related.

Police say the incidents are taking place during the overnight hours.

In some cases, thieves work in groups. One will loosen up the lug nuts, the next finishes the job running off with the rims.

Police advise to use lockable lug nuts or seat locks sold at auto stores. They say park the car in your garage whenever possible.
