The World of Literary Art Fills the Streets of Deep Ellum

In Dallas, there’s always a fun concert or new art to check out.

However, you rarely hear about events focused on the literary arts.

This weekend’s “Lit Hop” in Deep Ellum brought attention to that specific kind of art, and the event hopes to become a staple in Dallas for years to come.

“Lit Hop” brought together writers, poets, and book fans on Saturday. The event can be described as a mash-up between a book festival and pup-crawl throughout different book shops, galleries, and bars in the Deep Ellum area.

The event is put on by WordSpace, a non-profit literary organization.

Dee Mitchell, board president of WordSpace, said they want to put the literary arts on the same level as both performing and visual arts in Dallas.

"Literature tends to takes place in people’s offices or homes, or where they are working solitarily. This is a chance to get out and really see what people are doing, and to hear them and get to know them,” Mitchell said.
