Lewisville police have issued an arrest warrant for the husband of a woman who was attacked with a chainsaw in the middle of a street.
Maria Santos Corona's body was found in the street along the 1000 block of Shadow Wood Lane on Monday afternoon. Investigators are searching for her husband, Jose Fernando Corona, who was last seen driving a brown Toyota Sequoia with Texas license plate number 247-DVH.
"The detectives got on the scene quickly, talked to the family members and through the initial investigation, developed probable cause to believe he was the person responsible," Capt. Kevin Deaver said.
Lakeland and Central elementary schools in Lewisville were voluntarily locked down while officers searched for the husband.
Investigators said the body was mutilated in some way, though they haven't revealed specifics.
Chris Cortopassi found Maria Corona's body a few feet away from her driveway when she came home from a doctor's appointment.
"I couldn't tell what had happened," she said. "Obviously, I could tell there was a bad thing that had happened there."
Police said Corona's six children are in a safe location while the investigation continues.
A fund to help the family pay for Maria Corona's funeral is now set up at Wells Fargo Bank.
