The Grinches That Stole Santa Claus

Thieves steal massive, 300-pound balloon from Grapevine motorcyle dealership

Grapevine police are on the lookout for a missing St. Nick.

He's 300 pounds and was last seen in a red suit and green gloves at Grapevine Kawasaki Polaris.

And he's 25 feet tall.

Dennis Wagner, owner of the Grapevine motorcycle dealership, said four thieves stole the giant blow-up balloon in the middle of the night.

"I just am stunned, shocked that they would do this," he said.

Surveillance video shows four Grinches going through the back lot. Investigators said they stacked tires, scaled the building and cut the steel cable that secured the massive Santa balloon.

"They threw him over the side, and they got out of here," Wagner said.

Grapevine police said it's not an everyday type of case.

"We haven't had anything quite like a 25-foot Santa stolen before," Lt. Todd Dearing said.

Wagner said he is hoping a $500 reward will bring his $8,000 Santa back.

"It's a little funny, more so for everyone else," he said.

But police said the theft is a felony.

"We really don't take these things as laughing matters," Dearing said. "Any time someone is a victim, it's not funny, because that person is at a loss."
