Thanksgiving Grocery Shopping

The owner of Save-A-Lot in the Highland Hills neighborhood in Oak Cliff says they are so busy they can hardly keep up with the demand.

Employees were busy working inside the store on Simpson Stuart Road to restock the shelves.

All day Wednesday there was a steady stream of customers that streamed in and out getting those last minute Thanksgiving meal deals.

Despite how busy they have been though, lines moved quickly.

The store store opened in late October and shoppers says this is a welcome addition to a neighborhood without a supermarket for nearly a decade.

"This is a life saver. It saves us on gas, it's right around the corner within walking distance," said shopper Robbie Joyce Johnson.

"You think of so many people coming in today they say you know what it would take me 30 to 40 minutes to drive to the grocery store and come back. That's an hour to get some greens or whatever," said former Dallas City Councilman Tennell Atkins.

"I had no idea it would be so welcomed to the neighborhood. This is my way of giving back to this community," said owner Joseph Kemp.

The store will be open on Thanksgiving day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
