Texas Authorities Bring End to Funeral Home

Waco funeral home ordered to stop selling prepaid funeral benefit contracts

State authorities have closed Waco's Calvary Funeral Home, citing a violation of a Texas law prohibiting the sale of prepaid funeral benefit contracts without a permit.

The Texas Department of Banking said it ordered Frank Hesbrook, owner of Calvary Funeral Home, to stop selling prepaid funeral benefit contracts and to stop collecting money associated with the contracts.

The Banking Department said the funeral home, which it said is now closed, sold the contracts without having a permit from the agency.

A telephone listing for the funeral home was disconnected tonight.

The Banking Department urged people who purchased a prepaid funeral benefit contract from Hesbrook or Calvary Funeral Home to contact the Department of Banking to verify the status of the contract.
