Texas to Pay $175,000 Settlement in Pay Bias Case

The Texas Department of Agriculture and General Land Office have agreed to pay $175,000 in back pay to three former female state employees who complained that they were denied compensation equal to that of their male counterparts.

A Justice Department statement Friday says the two government departments agreed to the settlement as successors to the now-defunct Texas Department of Rural Affairs for which the women worked.

The statement says the three women suffered retaliatory termination because of their complaints over pay discrimination.

Under terms of the settlement, the state offices agreed to abide by all federal equal-pay laws.

Spokesmen for the Department of Agriculture and General Land Office declined to comment on the settlement announcement.
